Course Catalog: Fall Semester 2017

Aviation - An Introduction
Teen/adult

COME FLY WITH US! ENROLL NOW! BRING YOUR CAMERA AND A FRIEND! Join this dynamic discussion covering the basics of flight, facts of lift, aircraft pre-flight, taxi, takeoff and landing checklists. This class culminates in a SATURDAY FIELD TRIP to an accredited St. George student pilot training facility where the operation of differing aircraft will be discussed.  Everyone will sit in an aircraft and demonstrate control surface operation while we discuss navigation and instrumentation. Students may sign up during the course to preflight, taxi, and fly a REAL AIRPLANE at the end of the course*. PREPAID STUDENTS  may sign up at a later date to actually fly with a CFI flight instructor and begin a student pilot log book on the day of the field trip.  ENROLL NOW!

  • Day 1. BASICS OF FLIGHT - What makes an airplane taxi, takeoff, fly and land safely? What is the basic rule of flight? What are the consequences?
  •
  • Day 2. AERONAUTICAL CHARTS AND NAVIGATION - How to read and understand navigational charts.
  •
  • Day 3. AIRCRAFT INSTRUMENT PANEL  Prepare for live flight.
  •
  • Day 4. SATURDAY FIELD TRIP TO THE ST. GEORGE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT: Everyone will sit in and feel the controls of three different aircraft, each more complicated that the last. Learn runway numbering and wind sock procedures.  We will discuss the St. George Municipal Airport requirements for both day and night operations.   Those interested will have the opportunity to pre flight, taxi and fly a REAL AIRPLANE with a CFI Chief Flight Instructor and begin a student pilot log book for an additional fee of only $50.00 to be collected at a later date. Captain Baker highly recommends this for everyone*. “For some, this is a truly fantastic once in a lifetime experience. For others, it’s the first step in lucrative, rewarding career.” (Subject to aircraft limitations)

*Community Education class only includes airport field trip. Students who continue with introductory flight do so under their own will and at their own risk.
